April Fools… NOT!

Well, here goes nothing.  Or maybe it will be something great!  I don’t know, but here it goes.  I am embarking on a year of taking pictures every day–a Project 365.  I’ve never seen the movie Julie & Julia, but my hair stylist Debby (hi Debby) said that the main character Julie embarks on a year-long project of daily making a recipe of Julia Child’s.  I think that this concept predates the movie but I’m not sure.

Anyway, over the next year, starting tomorrow, April 1, I will be taking (at least) a photo each day and blogging about it.  Why?  Because I’ve gotten lazy and stagnant, taking photos at band gigs, but not really stretching into other areas of photography–still life, landscape, everyday stuff.  I want to look at things differently, not just walk through life letting the beautiful, the ugly, the dirty, the rustic, the interesting stuff pass me by.  One of my friends, Lisa (hi Lisa), has been doing this for a month or two, and I love the photos from her everyday life–a door with stickers on it, a candle, a spinning ceiling fan.  There really is something to be said for the beauty in the mundane.

I expect this to be fun but challenging.  I mean, can I really do this EVERY DAY?  I think so.  That’s the goal.  I can’t promise I’ll post something every day, simply because life does get in the way.  However, I will do my best to catch up, posting multiple photos in a single blog.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey.  In the lower right, you can subscribe to my blog and get an email each time I blog.  I’ll also be sharing my blog on Facebook. I encourage you to comment–obviously, compliments are welcome, but constructive criticism is also much appreciated.  I’m also open to suggestions for things to photograph in the future.  I look forward to what the next year will bring.  See ya tomorrow!
